About the Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating and Hot Water Systems Course (Level 3) Course

This qualification is designed to enable learners to understand and demonstrate greater competency when designing heating systems. The course will enable you to design heating and hot water systems in accordance with the Conservation of Fuel and Power: Approved Document L, as per the Building Regulations 2021 edition.

This is a CPD unit created for operatives working within the Building Engineering Services Industry. It’s also a pre-requisite to some other qualifications in the renewables sector.

This course will cover topics including:

  • the regulatory requirements and sources of guidance for energy efficiency standards for gas-fired and oil-fired heating appliances connected to ‘wet’ heating circuits

  • minimum boiler efficiency standards for gas-fired and oil-fired heating appliances connected to ‘wet’ heating circuits

  • space heating primary circuits type and design for gas-fired and oil-fired ‘wet’ heating systems

  • hot water system type and design for gas-fired and oil-fired systems

  • preparation and water treatment of hot water systems and wet central heating systems

  • commissioning of hot water systems and wet central heating systems

  • minimum standards for the control of gas-fired and oil-fired wet central heating systems

  • minimum standards for the insulation of pipework for gas-fired and oil-fired wet central heating and hot water storage systems

  • stand-alone, glandless heating system circulators

This course is current and in-line with the Domestic Building Compliance Guide and now incorporates the Boiler Plus scheme into learning.

How is the Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating and Hot Water Systems Course (Level 3) Course delivered and assessed?

The course is taught at our Stafford training centre. You will be assessed through an online assessment.

There are no credits or honours for this course. You will either pass and gain your qualification, or you will be referred and have the opportunity to retake the exam at a later date. If you need to retake the exam, you will receive a free re-sit for each module.

What are the next steps after earning this qualification?

Once you have earned your qualification, we will offer you support on the next steps.

This can include connecting you with partner organisations and clients who are in need of qualified installers or maintenance engineers, either on a direct or subcontracting basis.

You do not need any particular experience of qualifications to enrol in this course, however, the target group for this qualification are learners who are Heating Engineers, Design Engineers and operatives in the Building Services Industry.

If you were unable to successfully pass the assessment phase of the course, you would be referred and together, we’d work out what approach is best for you.

If a candidate wants to retake their exams, we provide you with the opportunity to re-sit any module exam for free. We’d also work with them to ensure they can further develop their skills and practical experience, giving them the confidence and knowledge to hopefully pass their exams this time round.

If we or the candidate feels they need more significant support or that the course isn’t suitable for them, we would work with the candidate to work out the best outcome for all.

To join this course, you will need to be over 18 years of age and no longer in full-time formal education.
