About the Level 3 Gas Engineering Operative Apprenticeship
This apprenticeship is designed for individuals looking to become fully qualified gas engineers. Gas engineers install, maintain, and repair gas appliances in domestic and commercial environments, with responsibilities including:
- Installing, servicing, and repairing central heating boilers, cookers, gas meters, LPG appliances, and space heaters.
- Advising customers on appliance operation and energy efficiency.
- Ensuring compliance with gas safety regulations.
- Working in various environments, including homes and businesses, with a strong focus on customer service.
The apprenticeship is delivered by Logical Training as the apprenticeship provider, with Staffordshire Training Services as the training partner. Learners will develop knowledge, skills, and behaviours through face-to-face workshops, hands-on training in our dedicated training centre, and practical experience in the workplace.
Upon successful completion, learners will be added to the Gas Safe Register, certifying them as competent to work on at least four appliances..

This 18-month programme follows a structured day-release model, where learners attend the training centre one day per week while working the rest of the time.

Learners can enhance their qualifications with additional bolt-on courses, including:

A one-day plumbing qualification recognised by the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme. - Hot Water Systems and Safety Course (Previously Unvented G3)
A one-day course focused on installing and maintaining hot water systems.
Learners must provide evidence of English and maths qualifications (e.g. GCSE certificates) at enrolment. Those without a Level 2 qualification in English and/or maths will receive support to complete a Functional Skills qualification, typically within the first six months of the apprenticeship.
Upon completion, learners will be qualified to work on at least four appliances, including boilers, cookers, gas meters, and LPG appliances.
Learners who do not pass their first attempt will have the opportunity to retake assessments at a later date, with support available.
You do not need prior gas engineering qualifications, but you must be employed by a Gas Safe-registered company to complete the apprenticeship.
